I think the argument can be made though that with a shorter overall lifespan, people tend to marry and procreate at younger ages.

Marrying that young and having sex is a lot different than a modern 13 year old kid being promiscuous, IMO. It was more a matter of necessity than any desire to get some. It's all in the historical and anthropological context of the time period and cultural customs.
