Hawaii = awesome surf... but the sharks
Oregon surf doesnt yield much shark attacks.. only hear about great whites every now and then, but no attacks.
Hawaii and Cali (where im from) you get a few more shark species attacks, than just GW's.
Definatly fun though, its worth the risk in my opinion
More skill involved than wakeboarding....

Balance/stance wise yes. I skated for a while (3 years) and that definatly helped me out alot. But, now you have to judge waves, when to line-up and all that.
