Shadowbane's European publisher goes bankrupt!

Germany's developer/publisher SWING! Entertainment Media AG has filed for
bankruptcy. They were the ones contracting "Gladiator" extra Ralf Moeller
(the weightlifter-turned-actor) as their... ahem... celebrity spokesman and
behind Enclave/Xbox and more noteworthy the developers for the MMORPG
Shadowbane. How many people exactly were let go is uncertain, but they had
been axing people on a monthly basis for some time.

People fluent in German can read it either here or here

As if that wasn't enough, the game's Asian publisher had their website
h4xxor'd and held hostage. We have a shot of what the site looked like
here. (http://fatbabies.com/___(HaCkeD%20By%20King9x)___Malaysia.htm)

This does not bode well for Shadowbane, a game already plagued with
development costs and delays.

It is true that 'the game is not out yet', but the beta is coming to a close and many of us are not quite satisfied.

Power-gamers and the like will have the time of their lives, yet roleplayers will have little acceptance within the community. Trust me.

Though I am not sure if you folk are a roleplaying guild, I am assuming so, as I see you once had Xzean among you.

You say that this not a game for RPers LOL thats kinda funny because you put us RPers as wimps and people who wont have good char because we RP too much. Well thats not the case with anyone who will be playing this game. I for one RP but first i find a viable class to play even if not the most popular (Inf in DAoC in the first month of release) but then hey it became the the most popular class out there.

If you havent read much on the SB boards it seems that all most all are RPing while playing their char. And with the herald being out there with and FC events. In actuality its the people who hate RPers and try to just kill them that are going to be in short supply as they will either not be organized or get run out because of their horrible political stratagy.

Well lol my Rant is over. :satisfied:

Wow. No. That is not at all what I was saying. I think that you misunderstood me.

I am an avid roleplayer. I followed Shadowbane from the beginning. I was a member of House Gilliandor, under the name of Taranis Thilandrae.

I was not, in any way, saying that roleplayers were 'wimps' or people who 'won't have good chars'. I would never say that -- because I am a roleplayer.

The point of my post was that, judging by the masses upon masses of people present in the beta test -- roleplaying is not accepted by the community. Regardless of what happens on the message boards, in-game it seems to be quite frowned-upon.

For instance, I chose to walk through cities rather than run, because I think running through cities is ridiculous. I recieved numerous messages calling me a 'newb', trying to convince me to turn 'Run' on. I refused, and they continued to mock and insult me. I tried to argue that Shadowbane was a roleplaying game, but the response I recieved was 'LOL, newb, it's a PvP game! STFU!'

At that point, I lost hope.

I thought that Shadowbane was going to have a roleplaying community. But I was wrong. That is why I eventually left. Regardless of what happens on the message boards, the in-game roleplaying is null. Roleplaying guilds are stomped-out by the ARAC guilds, mocked, insulted, and quite plainly overwhelmed.

And it is sad. That is why I left.

Ok well let me explain beta politics up to this point.

In the beginning nobody RPed in beta we were testing the game not the ability to RP. Now that the game has come so far and it is pretty solid has bugs but its still real fun.

2 builds ago everyone in the game were RPing. There were all human all elf all shade factions and it was pretty fun. Now there are about half and half some RP some just play the game. I play the game to PK I RP some but I would rather have the best char for my play style then to RP one I dont like to play.

There will be plenty of room for RPers Hardcore RPers will have as much fun in this game as they could possible in any other game. Pretty much if you dont RP you dont get to participate in the FC events and the events the developers present. However RP will be hurt in PvP because ARAC guilds have the best players because your not forced to be something you dont want to be they generally attract the best players and the players in these guilds play to kick ass not to speak old english. But you can still survive you just wont be the guild on top.

I had initially assumed that the first stages of the beta were void of roleplaying simply because we needed to focus upon testing, instead -- but I was so blatantly mocked that I soon changed my mind.

I am glad to hear that things have changed, however. I still have the beta installed. It is drawing to a close, yet perhaps I may still 'squeeze some time in', as it were.

You have my thanks.

P.S. What has happened to Xzean, by the way? I see that his last post was in September, and it was not a farewell....

Many of you have played DAOC a lot longer than I have, I've only played for about 6 months. However, even with the short gametime compared to most of you, It'll be hard for me to go to SB until SB can sell itself to me. The majority of the things I hear about the Beta, is that it sucks. The company is laying off peeps before the game even releases. Right now, I'm not impressed. I would like to have a new challenge eventually, but for now I still enjoy DAOC very much. However, after playing mainly FPS for most of my gaming life (started with Delta Force and I quickly went downhill from there) and this being my first mmorpg, the teamwork and the camaraderie of this guild will pull me wherever. Basically, If ALL of BWC moves, Keabit moves. Sometimes just logging in to see the guild chat spam is worth the membership of the game. That being said, I'm not planning on buying(wasting money)on this game unless I hear a lot of good reviews. I'll wait for the majority of the people to but it and then read everything I can from websites to message boards. Beta testers insight does not/never sells me on anything. The advice is good, but many people like the sims online too(which sucks). This is also not to say that beta testers know nothing, don't take this the wrong way. They limit beta testing to 1000 peeps or something? Thats not nearly enough of a control group that keabit would like to see.

/em long breath, lights cig

Ok, I'm done. Sorry about this long ass post.

I am not sure of the exact number, but I know there are more than 5000 beta testers currently.

I must admit that I do not find the beta very pleasing. It really feels no different than any other MOG out there.

I think Xzean was chasing around his online g/f Pirotessa. Most members in BWC do not understand RP much less do it.
