Closing of TL web sites here on olgg.org


Effective immediately the following web site will be shut down animist.olgg.org, bonedancers.olgg.org, and wardens.olgg.org. This included the forums located at animist.olgg.org/foru, bonedancers.olgg.org/forum, and wardens.olgg.org/forum.

On 8/27 Mackey decided to throw out a 7+ year relationship I had with Mythic. Over that time I've worked as a beta tester, in game op, a TL, and the TL coordinator. His reasoning for removing me from the TL program was I thanked another TL in a 2 sentence post for his full page flame of all TL that dared question some of the content of the NDA Mackey asked us to sign to continue being part of the TL program. We weren't questioning the NDA itself or the requirement to sign it but some of the content of it like the fact the NDA stated we wouldn't even be able to tell others it existed which Mackey quickly stated was ok to do. Net result was the NDA discussion had the contract saying one thing and Mackey basically stating we could violate that contract in many places. If we had signed the NDA in it's original form all TL would have been in violation of the contract simply by doing their jobs as Tls. Myself and a few other Tls questioned this and for it got flamed by a fellow TL that felt we should just drink the company coolaid or we didn't belong in the program. I thanking him for setting us straight and for that got booted from the program I had spent the past 3+ years working to build.

Over the past 4 or so months, since Mackey took over, I've quietly watched him transform the TL program. Quite frankly in my personal opinion the TL program no longer exists. Its been replaced by the ML program*. The ML program is one where you don't dare question Mackey, where your job is to nod your head and step in time. Oh there are still a few good TL's left don't get me wrong and the closing of the above boards isn't a reflection on those TL's. However TL's are being forced out left and right to be replaced by ML's. I created the above sites/boards for the TL program since that program no longer exists there is no longer a need for them.

The communities that have sprung up around these sites and others like it is what in a large part what made DaoC what it is. However for those communities to work they required the TL program to feed into Mythic and the game. That's no longer possible with the ML program.

I spent the last couple weeks thinking about what to do with these sites. I didn't want to just shut them down in response to be booted from the TL program. So I waited and thought on it. The more I reflected on the past 4 or so months of the TL program the more I realized the TL program that worked so well and quite frankly IMHO can be created with a great deal of the success of DAoC simply no longer existed. It's been turned from one of Mythic's greatest assets to a PR group that's only tolerated for it's PR value and generally viewed as a liability, thus the strict NDA which upon signing placed every TL in near immediate violation and not only subject for removal but being taken to court of violation of Mythic intellectual property. Heck the version I originally saw opened sites the TL's posted on subject to being sued. Could those law suites have held up in court? I don't know but someone like myself can't afford to find out.

I wish the remaining TL's and the many players that contributed to the above sites the best. Perhaps one day the TL program can be restored but for now we are just fooling communities like these that it still exists. Mythic was once a great company but over the last couple of years its grown so fast it's lost focus and control. Perhaps one day the dust will settle and someone at Mythic will take a hard look at what it's become but that day is still a long way off.
