Looking to buy a new TV in the 40"-50" range, and spend no more than $1300 total. Hoping to get 1080p, but not sure if 1080 is so much better than 720? No real preferences between lcd, dlp, plasma. I heard plasma breaks easily though. Also would like it to be physically slim if possible. Should I buy it online or a store like bestbuy? How important is the contrast ratio?

nothing really uses 1080p unless your gonna go balls to the wall nuts with the HD everything. 780p will pretty much make you a happy camper.
go LCD over plasma.
and go with the LG company brand tvs// they been doing some good things for a fiar price

I'm a big fan of panasonic myself. IMO if you got the $$$ and you dont plan on keeping the TV for more than 4 years plasma is the way to go.... otherwise LCD or DLP for sure.

I have a 45 inch panasonic plasma. For like blue ray and HD tv, it is really crisp. I don't know if I could see the difference between 780 and 1080, cause my eyes arn't great.

Ting: No, but its why I date skinny, short girls with short hair and unisex names. That way when I have sex with them, from behind and in the ass only, the Church doesn't get mad at me and send me to hell.

I don't think you can find a 40"+ 1080 lcd/plasma for under $1300, dlp maybe but not lcd/plasma (I was just at Fry's today looking at TVs).
I've got a 42" Panasonic Plasma and it fills all my HD needs (720p is plenty crisp)... for the lounge room upstairs I'm seriously considering a projector mounted on the ceiling. Anyone know of a good projector for under $1k?

Says, $1,179.99 in my shopping cart +$100 shipping. You might buy that piece of crap for $1,280.00, but I wouldn't. Check out the
awesome "media box" you get with it:

Product truely speaks for itself just read the reviews. $920 was the price when I posted. Non the less it's a great 1080P TV under $1300 with superb picture quality if you don't mind having an accompanying media box.
