Well, we have already accepted the fact that SB for the most part is not exciting enough to be "the next big thing." I wanted to have a poll on what upcoming game everyone is most excited about at this time.

I go w/ planetside cause its guaranteed pvp and I think its due soon. wow will take forever. swg Im not sure about pvp so it went down.
I am afraid of CS whores visitng planetside and owning all non asians with their super genetic FPS superiority, but whatever.

I'll play DAoC until a game comes out that doesn't suck. My hopes are on PlanetSide, WoW, and maybe even EQ2 0.o

I have a feeling that BWC is gunna be split between Planetside and SWG....I might try to play both. Or I'll try both and play the one I like better. I tried to get into SB with the beta but I think that game needs a few more years of development before I will be willing to try it again.

I could give a crap about PvP honestly, if I want to kill ppl I'll play quake.

Games geared toward PvP totally lack in character development and game content in order to make all players equal. I don't want to be equal, I want to be uber. Daoc is a joke. Every char is the same. Everyone has a 16.5 dps weapon and 102 af armor. Anyone who spends 5 minutes to figgure it out can cap their stats. It takes little skill to earn RP's, just spend alot of time doing it and your set. A little too dumb for me, thanks.

Anyways, you'll see me in SWG, and EQ2. Maybe the others also, but I know that these two will have enough content to keep me busy for a while.

Edit: O.o

The next big hype is SWG. I haven't heard any ooo's and ahhh's from beta testers yet though.

I persevered with SB beta for a few more days ... it stopped crashing on me and was mildly enjoyable but I doubt I'll buy it. I'm not sure what those developers were doing for 5 years - perhaps boozing.

EQ2 looks sweet. If I haven't kicked my gaming addiction by then I'll be there.

I think a few of the reasons PvP engines are important to others in MMORPG's Madness are-

1) MMORPG's offer a different; more social style of PvP. Although viewing body parts after shooting someone with your Do0m cannon can be fun (I enjoy FPS as much as anyone) the team work and diversity of encounters are just not there. FPS's boil down to, with time; more redundant gameplay at an accelerated pace.

2) I think some also like to be "ub3r" as you described. I agree in full bro the PvP system of DAoC is fairly limited and as with many other PvP engines corelates with time spent more than any other single factor. FPS's cater to equality at even a greater extent which does not reward those that have more time making themselves "ub3r." Winning is fun!

3) Let's face it, everyone wants to play with me and I spend more time in MMORPG's then any other game type. So PvP engines are important to everyone else in reflection of my priorities. :P

I think the combination of FPS/MMORPG's could be interesting if done correctly. That is why Planetside looks so appealing to gamers IMO.
