Pastrana New Years Eve Event may be something worth watching on TV New Years. Travis is launching 200+ feet off a Long Beach peer onto an anchored barge. They just showed the practice runs on Fox News. He has already destroyed two Subaru but feels good about the jump and the calculations. This should be much more difficult then a bike sense the car turns into sail plane in wind. The event is on rain or shine and the barge will be anchored.

In this case I believe that makes things worse. I'd much rather be able to separate myself from my equipment then be strapped in a water stunt like this. That car can easily morph into a coffin if it sinks and he is unconscious. All that aside the dude is one of the best drivers in the world and his stunt team is top shelf so I'm guessing the math is solid.

With the amount of speed he's going to be traveling, I think I'd take my odds with the cushy seat and protected cabin of a car versus directly facerolling into a barge while flapping my arms like I could fly.



In a water landing, the car would take a little longer to sink because of the surface area (assuming it lands fairly flat). You'd have some time to start trying to get out, plus you have crews already there on standby.

Make no mistake bro, I completely understand the dangers of riding a motorcycle and the cost of making mistakes while on one and am in no way making light of bike stunts. I just believe the geometry is much more difficult with the car. Also on a bike you have pads, leathers, can maneuver the bike in flight, slow it down after landing etc. A car you gas, hit a line and hang the fuck on. The suspension travel disadvantages of a car are more then going to make up for a "cushy" seat IMO. The first responders would be there if he was jumping a car, bike, tricycle or whatever of course. I would think it certainly has to be easier to grab a floating body then dive under, break windows and release someone out of a 5 point harness if there is a loss of consciousness.
