I'm not going to go into a lot of detail, but I've been in beta for a while now, but haven't played the last month or so. I logged in this weekend and WOW. They have made a TON of changes. The game servers are up 24 hours a day now, altho the login server has some issues. The professions are fleshed out much better, with the "hybrid" professions (such as squadleader) still getting some work in the next few patches. Combat does have some strategy now.
Anyways, if you haven't played it in a while, it has improved a TON. It really has me excited for launch.
And for those who know me, you know I hate crafting. I WILL have a second account to do some crafting. And it will even be a gay tailor to make cloths. Dunno but it is just cool, you have dozens and dozens of types of each thing, with over 200 colors to choose, and various decorations for each base. Call me a carebear, but something saphyre and I both wanna do on that account.
The game feels like a game nearly ready for launch. A few issues to iron out but they've made dramatic improvements. I didn't lag one bit outside of the lag the bazaar terminals have.

Honestly, I can completly see mid july right now. Ive been thinking they were going that way for a while. But the servers are almost 24/7 stable now, it is the login servers that get people. I was logged in for about 8 hours yesterday (got up several times to do stuff, once long enough to loose link due to idle timeout) and didn't lag ONCE.
Bazaars badly need worked on, as do the player association stuff. Other than that tho, most of it is just bug fixes. Most of the professions I've played with really are fun, and the combat ones seem to all have a roll they can play.
It has changed a LOT in the last month, that is for sure.

I been playing this too a lot lately with some friends of mine who also got in.
It really has come a long way from what it was. I currently am playing a brawler/marksman combo in hopes of becoming a bounty hunter or something someday.
I think the 20 people in a group for exp and hunting is pretty cool. Leaves plenty of room for everyone. Haven't played since last week though, so I need to see what's up.

There are currently 5 pvp status's you can be...Empire Cover and Overt, Rebel Cover and Overt, and Neutral. Neutral's are a lot like AO's neutrals, they are very hampared, both in PvP and PvE dealings. They can't do much at all with an Overt player, not even trade (altho they can use merchants/bazaars, just no direct trading/healing etc). They are doing a good job of discouraging neutrals.
Cover and Overt...Overt is simply open PvP, 24/7. You get some benefits, like overt imperials can wear storm trooper armor and what not. Covert means you aren't open pvp, and the enemy can't even tell if you are covert or neutral. Overts and other coverts of your side can tell though. There are a lot of things, but basically if you are grouped with an overt, and that overt is attacked by another overt, you are free to defend him. If you are a covert in the attacking group, you can not open fire as well, but you can (always, regardless of grouping) assist the attacker via heals or whatever. This will give you a TEF (temporary enemy flag), in which you are now open for attack from the group/guy you buddy attacked. You still can not initiate attack ever as a covert, but you can open yourself up for retaliation.
You can place turrets, covert detectors, etc around your own lil cities (I've yet to see a turret, but have seen small clusters around PA's (guilds) very city like, with their own shops and what not). Overts can go to war with each other, altho at least one of your houses can never be destroyed, I'm still not 100% clear on this.
Finally, there are the battlefields...It is kind of a capture the flag meets daoc RvR frontiers. I guess some are like arena's, you enter them, empire vs rebel. Here neutrals can do some pvp, they enter and either pick a side or are auto placed on the losing side, not sure, I hate neutrals. Basically it is destroy the other sides base. You can use faction points (gained thru doing missions, killing npc's and players of the enemy side, etc) to check out soldiers, even atat''s and atst's, turrets, etc. Then have big battles against each other. There are demolitions (commando's) and all kinds of stuff. I've yet to do one and they were only recently put in, so still got some bugs to be worked out.
But yeah, it has a large amount of PvP, both the free open type people like about pk servers, as well as the more structured, "risk free" type of daoc in the battlefields.
Plus you can switch overt/covert back and forth, 1 hour delay.

The leveling insn't that bad at all. Not to mention you can have 20 people groups.
Another plus is, say I am trained in like well, marksmen 1 or something and you don't have it yet. When you get the exp needed to advance that skill I could train you myself saving your credits and not having to go all the way back to town to find a trainer.
There are many advantages to this game in that aspect. Someone who can't play every day will never really be left behind. They go on a few hunting trips and such and come right up. There is no need for buff bots in this game either. I don't know how much more I can say about it without going too far past my limits. But it does have some potential. I have been in since the beginning of beta 2 and all I can say is wow.. over 30000 changes and fixes have been made so far. They are really working it to fix whatever they can before they release a pos game.
