WoW crafters

Postby Fardomar » Thu Oct 14, 2004 6:47 am

I got to thinking today about the crafting in WoW and the fact that we are going to need to have a full range of crafters in order to get every benefit possible. Alchemy gives you some very nice potions at the higher levels. Enchanting is very good for bonuses to equipment. Of course we need blacksmiths, leatherworkers and tailors. I also think some dedicated resource gatherers would be a good idea.

My main is going to be a Tauren warrior so I'll volunteer to be a miner and blacksmith. I know once you cap out at blacksmithing you can specialize in armor or weapons (not sure if you can do both, if someone knows for sure plz post).

I feel the dedicated resource gatherers are important so that the equipment makers can raise very quickly in skill. Get better equipment to the players ASAP.

I do have one concern. It seems like most people I know only use crafted gear just to fill in some small gaps until they get their quest item or mob drop item. This will only get worse once raid-style content is added post-release. The top-of-the-line gear isn't even in the game yet. Still I think it's important to have the choice.

Post here if you know you are going to play WoW and what craft you might wanna do. I want to start forming a list.

I wouldn't mind doing alchemy or enchanting.

Undead Mage tailoring/enchanting most likely.

ATM my Tailoring is probably above most level 18's however I find drops are far better atm to use. I need more linen/wool than I can find hunting to get it higher.

Enchanting is expensive and I don't really have the cash to get it going at the moment so can't comment. Just made some enchanted bracers and other lowbie gear.

We need leather/skinners too to supply leather goods and leather for tailoring.

Just my two cents. I would reccomend getting gathering trades for your main toon (the one you spend the most time on) and focusing on crafting alts. In WoW you can move supplies from toon to toon w/o transfers. Another way to go would be to choose skills that compliment each other, for example -

skinning/leather
smithing/mining
gathering/alch

The only problem I find with that Law is alot of the high-end craftable items are bind on pickup.

Good point Fardomar. I guess I would lean towards option #2 then. That also saves on mailing which before lvl 10 or so is a bit pricey. I find crafting in WoW to accomplish 2 things -

1) low end leveling
2) cash crop

At high levels you will be sporting a ton of drops honestly. I should also note I have only gone through expert crafting and as cool as that sounds its the mid tier. Thats about all I could stomach for a beta. Mike is right though, we do need to have people diving into these trades.

If the guild is honestly going to have some "primary gatherers" then they should pick one thing and gather it. Other gatherers should pick something else and gather that, and evenly distribute their finds among guildmates and themselves (to sell for profits of course). This way everyone can have engineering as their secondary trade. Now then, engineering is not required or even really needed, but if you guys really want to spread around the crafters and how available the resources are, then it's probably good for everyone to take that, because some of the stuff engineers can make are really nice and you typically have to be an engineer to use it.

Personally I'm going to be going herbalism/alchemy.
