It is like quake in that it is a FPS, but it has vehicles (both land and ground), mech warrior like suits, and several support roles, hacking engineering and medic. It also has 2-3000 people playing at a time, with large goals.
It is fun for small stretches at a time once the "neat" factor wears out. The squad dynamics is what makes it fun to me.
1. Tons of different roles to play, character skills are completely customized to your desires/needs.
2. Huge battles, shit gets crazy sometimes.
3. Killing newbs who stand out in the open shooting at a reaver with a suppressor (newb gun) haha
4. Squad tactics
5. It takes a good amount of strategy and tactics to be good.
6. Nice variety in landscape from continent to continent.
7. MAXs just make you feel so badass (especially the dual-cycler)
8. I've had some awesome 1on1 dogfights in my reaver.
9. When you been fighting enemy forces all night and you finally lock the continent and everyone starts cheering in /broadcast.
I could keep going....This game is similar to FPSs but it takes this style of game to a whole new level. I'm sure I'll be playing PS for atleast a few months after release. Its not for everyone, but everyone should try it to find out if you like it.
EDIT: Trying the game for a few days is not enough to decide if you like it or not. There is so much to this game that if you only try it for a few hours you aren't seeing enough of the game to give it a chance. Most of this games saving graces are in how well an experienced tight knit squad can perform compared to a disorganized pickup squad.
the only thing i dislike abut PS, is that getting shot in the foot.. is the sme as getting shot in the head..
i would rather there be some sort of damage code which when you get shot in the leg.. your movement is slowed.. if yo uget shot in the arm.. your aim/rectical is thrown off.. when you get shot in te head.. you take 50% more damage.
I think the only reason they don't do that is stress on the server. You have to make those determinations on the server, which mean seperate collision detection routines, which means more processing. Put it on the client and 2 weeks later there will be a headshot hack, 100% headshots all the time.
