s the game officially goes live, a new Producer letter has been released:
Howdy folks,

Here we are. Day One. The worlds are live and starting to fill up. As we
watch the process working, we're also watching the Forums and we've noticed
a few topics that may interest you.

First of all, the My PlanetSide features are now available. (You can either
click this link or go there from the front page of PlanetSide.com.) This is
a powerful feature that will only grow over time. You can check out outfit
and player statistics, ranking ladders and even watch the progress of the
various worlds over the last 8, 12, 16, or even 24 hours.

Secondly, there's a rumor out there that SOE was not going to allow the
European players to play on American servers and visa versa. That's a very
strange rumor and it has absolutely no truth. We, of course, allow players
to play anywhere they wish to play. We are opening up world clusters based
in Amsterdam soon, but those are not "required" for European players. Those
servers are just located there geographically to lower latency issues for
European players, if they desire to play on those servers.

Lastly, folks that were in Beta have noticed that experience awards are
lower than those to which they were accustomed. This is true, but the
experience curves in beta were intentionally overinflated to allow faster
progression of rank. This allowed our design team to examine data about the
usage of weapons and armor at the various Battle Ranks. Those XP gains are
now returned to the gains originally intended. For the record, the
experience gains while in a squad are shared evenly among squad members, but
with a 20% bonus added onto them. Therefore, if you destroy a target worth
100 raw XP, and you're in a squad of 10 people, your individual gain would
be:

(100/10) * 1.2 = 11.2 XP (rounded up to 12).

This may seem like a reduction in experience potential, but when in a squad
of 10 you rack up kills at a greater rate and with relative ease compared to
doing so as an individual, so it's possible to gain a great deal of
experience that way. (Plus, squads allow easier communication and allow the
sharing of base capture experience, as well as allowing Command
functionality, so they're very worthwhile groups.)

Sorry, I chose to play a support role that requires a mid level BR. After being flooded with complaints that the new slow XP system sucked, they go and slow it down even more than it was before release. Then they have the balls to say they always wanted to do this, yet there are dozens of posts by them to the contrary. EQism has taken over. Dunno, just irritates me, the game was fun sometimes up until monday last week. I've not had fun since then (except laughing while zeris was driving).

So gonna see how it goes and wait and see.

It is slower than in Beta, but I don't think its that bad.

I will admit that getting 20 exp from gunning someone down will take some getting used too. But on the other hand, we got 1,200 exp from taking a base that wasn't defended.

Besides, running with a good squad will improve your outlook dramatically :biggrin: :biggrin: :lookround: :biggrin: :huh: :mad:

At first the xp seemed to really suck. But you have the potential to gain alot of xp from hacks. (last night we had a 5000 BEP cap) Its really not so bad candide. Most of us are BR5 or 6 already, and I imagine we will be close to 10 in a few weeks. Now thats not so bad.

Agreed, key is a good squad... I.e. us..

Base caps are majorly raised in release vs. beta.

i played for 2 hours solo last night.
i got up to rank 4.

the highlight of my day was solo'ing a tank.. HAHAHA I got 1700 exp for that alone.

Amazing.

It used 8 rockets and 100 rounds of armor piercing ammo.

Anyways, I was total noob last night, and wasted my recert on something stupid.

I'm not exactly sure what I want to do, but so far, I'm a big fan of Medium Assault Weapons. I'm not sure what to spend the rest of my points in, but right now, give me a punisher, and i will get kills :)

btw, I got to rank 4 last night.. the learning curve was unexpected, but surmountable.

This is pathetic and the worst example of blatant lying I've ever seen so far. I have seen nothing that suggested the beta xp had "always" been inflated for said reasons. It seems much, much more likely that this was put in without mention to not drive off beta testers from buying the game.
I'm still going to play and all that, I just thought I'd bring up another strike against sony's terrible record.

Sleep sucks.

Killetas, get a vehicle, very key.

If you like MA, Anti-V Striker is next, or chain gun.

Also Rein Exo armor is nice, but you can only drive a Marauder or Harrasser then, but you can gun for other people.

Im going to respec to Sunderer tonight so I can drive more people around to the places we need to go, and then drop MAX soon and get hacking..I might even drop MAX tonight, get MA, then work on Hacking and get Sunderer tomorrow.

exp is ok u can hit br6 easy we cap a base for 7.8k today wth huge battle
quite nice just need to know where to go and what to cap

btw empty base 0 exp i tested 2 :(

Exp doesn't seem that bad at all compared to other games. Got the game on Tuesday, its now Thursday night/Friday morning and i am about to get BR11, and already have CR1. Relatively fast, but it is slower then beta mostly. However beta's base capture cap was like 3k and we've gotten over 7k from a single base and over 3 and 4k quite a bit. I would like to see bases count for less and kills count for more but it seems adequate.

Ya know, a lot of it has nothing to do with the change itself, but the way it was done. The blatent lies in the above posts, the fact they are removing any posts that complain about the xp system. They admit to it and respond with "we need the room for other issues that our devs will work on", so STFU newb this is verantism at our best! The change being made 1 week before go live, 95% of testers hating it, both the new system as well as the slower rate. So instead they slow it down even further for individual kills, but did make the base cap increase.

Dunno, just irritating me. Plus I've been traveling, planning wedding, got a new HDTV, etc etc. Haven't had time to worry about it yet :)
