Some thoughts after last night - For Retail

First of all I'd like to thank everyone who let me join the squad last night. You guys are definitely ahead of me since I had only about 1 hour cumulative playtime prior to that. That being said, I'd like to talk about the game, what's fun, what worked, what didn't, and the retail experience if any.

The game: is growing on me. Mostly because having a squad makes all the difference. I see a real fit for myself in the combat engineer / AMS / Medium Assault / Medic role. I really enjoy that aspect.

What's fun: is working as a unit and executing a plan. Watching a tower fall in perfect time without stumbles or delays is the best.

What worked: was one leader. One plan. One goal at a time. Unity.

What didn't: was soloing and splitting up. I'm useless as an engineer without a squad, or more accurately I'm 1/10th as useful. With some repetition and practice I will learn to support you better, and you will learn how to help me help you. That can be said for every member of our squad.

The retail experience: will only hold attraction for me with a cohesive unit. Without that this game is just tribes, but harder to solo in.

Thoughts?

any game is more fun once your working in groups. but getting split up is bound to happen depending on spawn locations aswell as timer on respawn. 20 seconds of no speak time during base respawn(+5 seconds depending on how fast you die),30 form ams(+5), and 40 from tower(+5) alot can happen in 45 seconds waiting to respawn. and when you can't speak during that time.. your basiclly null =(.

That's true to a point, but remember a good strategy also involves what to do when things don't go perfectly. For example when people fall in battle.

We need to have plans involving any medics to revive or which spawn point is agreed upon, how many members fall before we fall back to a regroup point.

These are all things I would expect to see in retail from a good squad.

I'm just wondering who is willing to put in the effort to make it work, and who wants to be more casual.

During the levelling process early on casual play in the general vicinity is fine for getting rank, but going forward there will be a marked difference between a seasoned regimented squad and the rest.

That's the real appeal of the game I think.

My thoughts from last night:

When taking a base, I think half the squad should go and destroy spawn tubes/equip consoles, while other half goes to cc and hacks.

This will keep terran "swarm" from geting too bad.

Option 2 would be to destroy the generator, but this would then involve the ant run. A bonus to this plan would be the fact that if a base lost power and went neutral, engineers could set up mines and turrets.

Just my 2 cents worth

p.s. Did anyone get a screen shot of the sunderer that gundorf stood on its nose?? that was hilarious

what the hell is up with sunderers being able to drive over like 10 mines.. but a trees having nuclear bombs hidden in the leafs destroying you instantly?

btw, adv medic sux hard if your not in a experienced good group..

Yeah, but I can fix the console's pretty easy, and I kind of like the idea of terrans running around with only the most basic weapons and armor.

Farm them lil doggies!!

I gave up on adv medic myself. If it were more group friendly, and, say - you had a tag on your name, like darklight ppl get, that'd be good. If, on dying, someone got a "there is an advanced medic named XXXXX nearby, you may wish to contact him before respawning" message, then maybe we'd be useful. Also, if we got exp for rezzing ppl (put a person on a timer so you cant abuse), then it'd be more useful. Plus, you HAVE to be infantry to get any benefit, and nobody ever likes seeing me in person, they always want me high in the sky. damn.

Zeris post your suggestions on the planetside beta forums. Yes the devs actually do read it. =)
