I checked out Catacombs last night when WoW servers were down.
First impressions:
1) NORSE ARE FRUMPY AND CHUNKY. I understand the whole Norse are agile and stock-build race...but omg, I felt like a reincarnated Sally Struthers. Transplant the Avalonian model to Norse women please ! I look like a Tall Dwarven Woman in current DAoC now.
2) Character enhancements are ok. Just giving the same options as other games now.
3) A lot of funky door/wall bugs. Twice I got stuck in the Vault Keeper/Guild Emblemeer Tree-Room at the door in 2 different spots in Kobold Underground city. Slightly annoying to do /stuck when you are trying to get to emblemeer to dye a cloak or shield.
4) I love DAoC. I even logged on Merlin last night. However, Catacombs is not the answer for longevity. The only thing I haven't done is look for "instancing" mobs etc. Maybe when I get back home I'll check it out. When I log in DAoC now, I feel its too slow. Maybe enhancing character movement might be better at this point (it was nerfed long ago...).

I loved rvr, but nf really ruined what I liked about it. the last few weeks of daoc consisted of me making thidranki toons. Thid seemed to always 60-80 mids, guess I wasnt alone in having far more fun there than in "real" rvr.
I never did get into daoc pve, I only did the minimum that i needed to be able to rvr
I do agree about the new models, they look mishapen
