RvR Last Night

So we managed to get 5 people on, and ran RvR last night. It was Malus on Reaver, Thelonius on Heretic, Joshll on Minstrel, me on Cleric, and Tiny as Sorc.

For awhile, we were running w/ Barph's reaver, Professionalnub's cleric and Kukgrol as pally.

Barph and Professionalnub LD'd themselves after we got rolled twice, and we ended up with Lomerek as a theurg, and Evilevie as a cleric.

Overall, we did pretty bad. Sure, we'd get adds etc, but even the fights where another group did add in, we were losing to the original group anyways.

From what I saw, this is what went wrong:

1) I was trying to branch out from healing, and interupt/shear. This didn't go so well, since it probably resulted in Tiny dying too much, basically, I should keep him targetted if I'm not healing someone else, since there is no time to switch to him if he needs a heal. I'm sure once he gets Moc2-3 and RR5, this will be far less of a problem.

2) We weren't using Vent well. I'm at fault here too, I need to get my mic working. We should make a rule that guild members grouped in a guild group CANT type. This should hopefully get people comfortable with using Vent. I feel stupid as hell on Vent, and I'm sure some others do to, so they don't talk, but if I can live with my girlfriend wondering WTF I'm doing listening to a bunch of guys talk about "assjamming" (which is a pretty bad expressions if you don't know what it means :P) then you can too :)

3) We kept "charging" people. I have no idea why. We'd see a FG of 8, hit SoS, and run at them. Meanwhile, our group was basically range based and we were charging mid tank groups. If anything, we should be running away to get range, then using our range to get theurg pets/mez off.

4) The people we picked up kinda sucked imo, the last few fights, I tried to watch what was going on, and our Pally never once assisted Malus, who was MA. So basically we had a 1 person tank train. To top it off, our Theurg was obsessed with trying to kill one person. Many times, I'd see 6-7 earth pets chasing down one of their seers, when they should have put 2-3 on each seer instead of trying to kill one.

5) We simply lacked DPS. Even if Kukgrol was assisting Malus, thats a tank train consisting of a Reaver and a Pally. Pallys are known for crap damage, and Reavers don't get Det, so they are going to be stuck rooted/mezzed/snared a fair amount. We need three tank types imo, or its almost not worth having a tank at all. Watching three tanks hammer someone in our group made this pretty clear to me. Even when they were beating on someone with some survivability, I'd have to spam my highest heal, which often left me out of power, and basically useless.

6) We can't count on CC, at all. Our first few times out, it was all about getting the mez off. And generally, it worked. The longer the server is up, the less thats going to mean anything. Roots and mezzes are going to last like 10s vs. tank trains. On top of that, I've seen some guilds saying that they are going Purge3 on their support. Even if we win Mez, that can't be our whole strategy, which it seems to be now. I've been in a few pugs that do really well. Basically, what they do is hit the other train, or shamans. The one group I was running with would go right for the zerks/BMs/Savages, while the theurg/minst/sorc cut off their healing. They might try and take out a shaman or two, but generally, it was the tanks, and it worked well.

7) People were new to their classes, and chars were new. I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure half our group was like RR1-2. Also, it was the first time for some people RvRing, or on their class, or driving, etc.

I don't think it was the classes that were killing us, it was more the people we had. We had almost an identical group to the one we dominated in yet in this group we couldn't kill 1 person for the longest time.

The main problem was there was no assisting, the pally would not get on my target until it was 1/2 dead. Also like you said the theurgist wasn't very good, which I had a feeling she wouldn't be. The other reason I think was because we had a rejuv heretic, and not only that but he's new to RvR so he probably paniced from time to time. From what i've seen heretics are a pretty reflex based class. The problem with rejuv heretics is that their main job as heretics is to snare and interrupt and not do damage, so all their PEW PEW is gone to waste. The benefit of a flextic is that they can still have a little rej to AE snare needed, they can interrupt casters, and they can jump on the train and have a pretty good tolerance for pain. Maybe if our heretics can look more into how to play in RvR by watching videos or reading up etc, they can learn to anticipate when to use what more effectively.

I sucked. I'll work on it. A couple times I popped SoS after people were already mezzed, wasting it. Or I'd use both SoS and purge in the same fight leaving me with nothing for a fight or two. I'm also trying to get the hang of being an interupter, when to use flute mez, when to stun & DD, etc.

And when we have a bunch of R2's in the group, there is no solution other than feel the pain for a bit as you get some realm levels.

But at least we ran a guild group. I'm glad for that. If we make it regular, and start to have success, maybe some of the disappeared will make an appearance.

I'm here for the long run. I don't hop servers or want to play other games. I want to succeed as an alb, even after getting zerged by the damn mids YET AGAIN. Goddamn I hate those f'ing zerging mids - and some of them R6 no less.

We = the people that stayed

We are down to a core of about 12 people, but at least we are grouping and rvring together.
