xbox 360 price at realease is 300 and there is a higher package with headsets and other stuff for 400

as for the release date, they are beating sony to release and then planning on the release of HALO 3 for the same time as ps3

no, just the $400 version.
supposedly it can be purchased as an addon for the $300... not sure if that's still the case.

either way, hard drive just makes game load times faster, and gives you basically unlimited save-game space. a lot of people didn't want to pay for that.

I read an interview with Sony's president who pretty much said PS3 was christmas 2006. So still a year away. He did imply they were trying to target the $300 range, which is much much lower than analysts have projected.

Pretty good article on the current complexity and expense of game development on Arstechnica (great site btw). And it has a hardware comparison between the two platforms. It's actually a good read just to realize how much game designing has gone from being small teams to massive productions.

If you dig in deeper into their forums, there has been a ton of ongoing debate from the chip designers and engineering geeks that hang at the site about the upcoming three platforms. Good place to geek out if thats your thing.
