I will reiterate what I said in the other DDO thread:

The combat system is clunky as all hell.

Autoattack is buggy, and the mobs move around in what I assume was meant to be a "challenging" manner; i.e. they try to flank you. This sounds cool and innovative in theory, but what it amounts to is a really annoying click-fest when you're trying to acquire and swing at a target that's moving around like a retard that's just been given a sparkler on the Fourth of July.

Also, the camera system is sucktastic. Mobs will get right on top of you but your camera won't pan all the way to the floor so you won't be able to see them to target them. The mobs also have collision so if you get pinned in a corner while bugged like this, have fun releasing to your spawn point!

I had high hopes for this game. I was sorely disappointed.

Dungeons and dragons is so much much when you play the real thing, get some friends together, bring nachos, beer, and play a good social game around the same table.

Personally, i rather put the time playing this way than on comp.

I use message board feedback to gauge game enjoyability ... ratio of well written negative posts to positive ones.
DDO Forums, VN (to a degree) and most importantly opinions from people here.

The result for this title unfortunately was don't bother :(

There is just too much well articulated negative feedback on this title for me not to waste my time.

im playing it and your right melee is annoying as hell, but as a caster i am having fun, it will probably only last 3 months though, long enough for another game to arrive

i think i learned my mistake about going melee in any game from DAOC..

always stick to casters or stealthers..

If you go in with a group, understanding what the game is, its fun.

I don't understand the comment someone made about not being able to pan the camera down, maybe you are in 1'st person only? Its standard wasd controls, with mouse look controlled by the mouse. I pan all over.

I enjoy the melee. I wish shield block was faster, but the melee is better than any other I've played. I enjoy the moving around. You get behind something, you hit them better and avoid their attacks.

First, turn off autoattack unless you have a bow. time your attacks so that your weapon actually makes contact.

I also really, really dig that there is colision detection. 2 tanks (figthers, clerics, pallys, perhaps ranger or barb) stand up front in a choke point, and let the others behind blast away.

Rather than pressing some taunt key to auto pull it off, if a tank looses agro and it goes to the mage, the ttank runs interference, and the squishy tries to lead the target back.

To me, its different enough to be fun. I have never played a game I've enjoyed rolling alts, but different classes play differently enough.

The downside to this game has nothing to do with combat/interface. It's that there were capped character 4-5 days after launch. It is for a casual gamer, who wants to group. Solo is horrid. If you level too much, you will be done quickly.

Amit's right, altho 3 months could be pushing it. I always said this game had 2 months life for me, hopefully they pump out content (and they had another 70 dungeons they pulled out ot polish up, so it is possible).

That and the typical turdbine aspect. I know a lot of you liked AC, but Turbine is a horrible developing group. Lots of really bad bugs, lots of things overlooked, lots of assumptions made. Just lazy stuff.

Sorry for typos, on my laptop in a hotel, i hate small keyboards.

yeah grouping is fun til you are in an instance then someone is like i gotta go and the whole instance is voided and you have to start over.

Turbine decided to make this like GW in terms of instancing instead of a real MMO. I already read the bit about devs not wanting to burden people with travel etc. but to me that is a crock shit ... they just wanted to reduce dev effort and I'm sure the biz folks liked the idea of reduced travel time as a selling feature.

Half the fun of an MMO is just exploring a large virutal world. Hell in AC half of the fun I had the first year was at least attempting to go to places you have no bother exploring for your level ;) DAOC per realm, while not as big as AC as a whole, was almost as much fun. Each realm had their "levelling spots" or other places to explore that were fairly unique.

The more a gaming company tries to limit your gaming experience the more they limit the longevity of a game.

IMO anyone who likes DDO in it's current form should be buying NWN2 when it comes out. I'm almost positive that NWN2 will be an order of magnitude more enjoyable than DDO.
