I think the biggest thing to realize is, at least right now, the pets DO NOT tank. So don't go in thinking either are pet classes. I imagine some people are going to roll either (especially necro's) and be in for a shock when they realize this.

Aside from that, it comes down to if you like dot's (necro) or nukes (demo) or funky chicken melee (HoX).

Funcom has a big thing against pet's doing any sort of tanking. In Anarchy online even the top of the line pets at 220 would ping pong between the pet and you.
