Grouping mechanics/xp split?

Anyone know anything about how the xp split works in a group? Does having a level 50 with a level 20 in the group kill the xp?

Trying to figure out how best to help out those who don't play as often when they log in.
Venderic, Candide or Mercutio in games.

My only experience testing it out on different level characters was when I grouped my level 26 char with Jen's level 20 character the exp per kill (for her) went from approximately 200 per kill to 50 per kill.
Cthulhu - 50 ML6 - Shadowblade - Merlin (Un-Retired)
Cliibhlibh - 50 ML6 - Shaman - Merlin(Ya I actually RvR with him)
Nosthu - 50 ML3 - Zerk - Merlin
Mosthula - 50 - Minstrel - Albion Lamorak (Retired)
Mosthula - 50 - Lurikeen Champ - Mordred (Retired)
