Setting up tv as monitor?

So I have a TV near my computer and i wanted to hook it up as a second monitor. i plugged a cable from my nvidia 8800 to the tv but it does not detect and the force detection thing on start up doesnt seem to find it either.....any ideas?

Turn the TV on and reboot the computer.

How is it connected? unless it's VGA or DVI/HDMI, you will probably be disappointed with the results.
