Guild wars?
Anyone taken a look at this one? No monthly fee
http://www.guildwars.com
Graphics are stunning, and it is made by a bunch of old Blizzard devs (of Star/War craft and Diablo fame). It seems to be a company owned by NCSoft, Richard Garriot's (creator of Ultima) company.
They seem to have a new take on several things in the MMORPG genre. Looks interesting. They only have 5 "classes" right now, but you pick two fo them, and the combination determines what you are. So a Warrior/Monk will be like a paladin, while a monk/warrior is more like a cleric. They claim to have a new take on leveling, with it being mission based, and you can do a lot of guild vs guild stuff.
Anyone heard much about it?

It is supposed to be in late Alpha. I forget where I even read about it, but it was a tester who was answering questions (they have a loose NDA aparently). Looks pretty cool.
I know dave/jen are thinking about coming. I know rich can't, as he will be off in medical school.
I don't know about me and Julie, as we are spending all the money on the wedding at the end of this month, and then the honeymoon in early april. We will get through that before we decide most likely.

Very unique and interesting -
I always thought MMO's should implement a way guilds could compete against each other without interuption.
Guilds can challenge other guilds to battle, compete for control of key parts of the world, and be ranked on a worldwide ladder

Although detractors decry (MMA) as a brutal, bloody form of human cockfighting, aficionados know it is a brutal, bloody, totally fucking awesome form of human cockfighting. -The Onion

Cool, I've found a couple of good fansites so far, all seem to be pretty pumped up about this game.
I guess it boils down to if they can deliver on what they are promising. This one appeals to me a lot simply because they finaly are taking a different stance on what has become a stale MMORPG template. Change is good, no matter what the mainstream masses say

It has actually been getting a bit of press lately. Was in one of my magazines we get (gotta love those free mag offers) and when bored this weekend I saw it listed on a number of top 10 most anticipated games lists. Their website has some (of course) really positive reviews from those in alpha.
At least it looks like it will be a change of pace.
