Any of you folks doing EQII or WOW?
We have a few folks up on Runeneye on EQII and have a mess playing the WOW open beta.

EQ2
- no pvp
- released too early (bugs, incomplete quests, crafting forumulaes just read forums)
+ best graphics
- grind sets in at level 14
WoW
+ 2 forms of PVP
- very stable during closed beta but population influx has destablized and created a lot of lag (loot pickup lag)
+ decent graphics
+ played to 33+ and didn't feel a grind
+ excellent and fairly bug free quest system
+ excellent non-grind crafting system
IMO if WoW can resolved stability/lag issues before retail I think it's a winner. The less realistic graphics are actually appealing to me - add some character to the game rather than the polished perfection look of EQ2 toons.

This was obviously a database issue, and in truth it wasn't a stabality issue, but more a networking/lag issue. I'd be interested in finding out exactly how they have their servers set up but I thought the game as a whole handled the lag rather well. Instead of getting hit with lag and the whole game tanking, you just get lag related to one thing. I'm guessing gameplay(not sure of a more appropriate word), database, and chat are all handled by different servers.
So this weekend we saw their database servers congested with traffic, so you could play along fine until you bent over to loot a corpse, and then the lag hit. I'm not a networking expert but that's how I see it as working out. As far as fixing it? I guess they'd just increase the servers in their database farm.
So the up side? When you're in an instance and everyone's dieing, you can still chat with them and let them know it's not your horrible healing skills that's killing them, it's lag.

Myself and Xplosivo are playing EQ2 because, well, we payed for it already and I honestly don't think there's enough hours in the day for 2 MMOs. EQ2 is very fun, not nearly as buggy as people say (at least from my experience), and there seem to be alot of really good people playing. With that being said, I've played a Tauren warrior to lvl 12 in the open beta for WoW and I can't find a thing wrong with that game either, so it'll be a great option to pick up if and when EQ2 gets boring. Look us up, we're on the Oasis server...I'm Dyarg and Xplo is Mastodonfarm.

I look at it this way, WoW is a far more "ready to ship" product than EQ2 is, I don't think many will argue this. I'll start on wow, if we get bored, then eq2 will hopefully be in better shape by then.
But no pvp is a bummer. I'm not hardcore into pvp, but it is a lot of fun to mix in.

Venderic, Candide or Mercutio in games.
