I refuse to debate further. Since everyone on the internet thinks they are a PC guru, it's just a waste of time, space, and bandwidth.
*note the referrence to everyone thinking they are a PC guru isn't necessarily directed to you, but to shrug off what usually turns into a pointless argument by various people (usually ending off with an AMD vs Intel or ATI vs nVidia argument)
Computer I am looking at: THOUGHTS?
its true, a lotta people think they're a guru. and yes, i do think i know what i'm talking about.
but i'm not trying to debate. i'm just saying that things other than performance are more important.
I don't care what you think about computers' performance, or your preference for video cards, or this or that..
most of my recommendations are based on $$$$$$$$
since most people don't have enough of it

Just to throw in another angle:
I have an Athlon 1700, 1GB RAM DDR, GeForce 3 Ti and Shammu has a P4 2.0 GhZ, 1.25 GB RAM SD133, GeForce 4 Ti - and my machine is roughly on par with her's (She thinks mine is faster)
I'd go with an Athlon and an nVidia card because Athlons are usually faster for the same money and the nVidia does a better driver support than ATI. I had both and the driver support for ATI sucks. Getting a new generation nVidia driver is like getting a new cards. I like futureproofing when I drop my cash for a machine.
Just my 2 cents... also check out www.tomshardware.com for a good techie overview.
