Priest Builds As of Sept. 30th

Postby Twystyd » Thu Sep 30, 2004 7:06 pm

There can be a few tough spots getting up to 20ish where you have gaps in your abilities (holy build) that make it hard to solo, but I think I've worked out an excellent Talent tree for a great group priest as well as a soloing God shadow build.

The major draw back to my holy build is you don't get combat ressurection literally until you level cap. With this build you should have a great balance of toughness, damage output, and most importantly you should always have some mana when you need it.

With a good wand you will be able to do respectable damage without using your mana. The Holy word sheild and Inner Fire talents will let you stand up to melees, and with the Mana burn talent you will put a serious whoopin on other casters.

I haven't decided what I am going to play yet, but a priest will definately at least be an alt, and quite possibly my main.

Of course things can change but if preist talents remain largely as they are I feel I've come up with very well rounded Preist that can stand on his own, yet really shines in groups as well as a close to unbeatable shadow soloer -

i don't know about the speccing system in WoW what does it mean when you have 5/5 3/5 1/1 etc

Does this mean when u have 5/5 u bought 5/5 points? it has a possible range of 5?

and the 3/5 is 3 points in an ability that can have 5 points?

i would guess the more points the more powerful

(like i said im a noob when it comes to WoW leveling, speccing etc)

Starting at level 10 you receive a talent point for each level (e.g. you have 11 talents dinging level 20). You allocate these points into talent trees which have a variety of effects such as lowering cool down timers, adding resists, DPS increases and even some sovereign abilities. The talents have maxes. You can't spend 51 points in any given area.

so 5/5 would be maxed out ~

Tomorrow I'll post what I feel are very good builds for the warrior and mage classes. These are the 2 classes that I have played the most.

-- Meditation - 5/5 points
Increases your Mana regeneration rate by 25%.

Does this mean your regen is 5*25% higher ie. 125% higher over all, or is it 5% per point spent?

It's 25% for having 5 points in the talent. So 5% for each point.

Here is a link to a Talent Calc on the WoW Vault site. For those of you that like to play around with numbers before you make your characters this may be of some use.

In retail there will be little to no respecing of talents. Talents are not suppose to make your character competetive or viable, they are simply suppose to make your character customizable and different. That being said they are, in actuality, exactly like RAs, there are some that you will almost have to have. Blizzard has already stated that the Talent resetting going on in Beta is just so that the testers can thoroughly test the talents, and in retail it will be either impossible or MUCH harder/rarer to respec your talents.

Actually looks like the changed the Holy Line around a bit with the most recent patch. And after some research, most people have been saying the talents in Improved Flash Heal are a waste.

Here is the template I am looking at now. It gives up the Improved Mana Burn for a bit more in the holy line. But from experience/research spending anything more on the Holy line would be a waste once the guild is in. Shadow is much better for soloing w/o a guild:

Class: Priest
Level: 60

Discipline Talents (23 points)

Unbreakable Will - 5/5 points
Increases your chance to resist Stun, Fear, and Silence effects by 15%.

Improved Holy Word: Shield - 3/3 points
Reduces the duration of your Holy Word: Shield's Weakened Soul effect by 15 seconds.

Improved Holy Word: Fortitude - 2/2 points
Increases the effect of your Holy Word: Fortitude spell by 30%.

Wand Specialization - 5/5 points
Increases your damage with Wands by 25%.

Meditation - 5/5 points
Increases your Mana regeneration rate by 10%.

Improved Inner Fire - 3/3 points
Increases the effects of your Inner Fire spell by 45%.

Holy Talents (28 points)

Holy Specialization - 5/5 points
Increases the critical effect chance of your Holy spells by 5%.

Subtlety - 5/5 points
Reduces the threat generated by your healing spells by 20%.

Improved Resurrection - 2/2 points
Reduces the resurrection sickness penalty of your Resurrection spell by 25%.

Improved Renew - 5/5 points
Increases the amount healed by your Renew spell by 20%.

Improved Healing - 5/5 points
Reduces the Mana cost of your Lesser Heal, Heal, and Greater Heal spells by 10%.

Combat Resurrection - 1/1 point
Brings a dead player back to life with 50% of their health and mana. The target does not suffer from resurrection sickness.

Improved Prayer of Healing - 2/2 points
Reduces the Mana cost of your Prayer of Healing spell by 20%.

Master Healer - 3/5 points
Increases the effectiveness of your healing spells by 6%.

Shadow Talents (0 points)

None

If you want you can take 2 points out of Meditation (better mana regen) and put them in Master Healer to boost heals by 10% instead of 6%

Pretty much Aby. A little more too it; but over all it is not extremely complicated.

I started a priest today with a friend I play with. This is the build I think I would do. I am leaning towards warrior as my main with a mage and priest as alts.
