These are 4 easy questions to determine the level of your intellect.

Your replies must be spontaneous and immediate, with no deliberating or
wasting of time. And no cheating!

1: You are competing in a race and overtake the runner in second place.
In which position are you now?



Answer: If you answered that you're now in first, you're wrong! You
overtook the second runner and took his place, therefore you are now in second place.

2: If you overtake the last runner, what position are you now in?



Answer: If you answered second to last, you are wrong once again. Think
about it... How can you overtake the person who is last? If you're behind
them, he can't be last. You would have been last.

Here's another question to try. Don't take any notes or use a
calculator, and remember, your replies must be instantaneous.

3: Take 1000. Add 40. Add another 1000. Add 30. 1000 again. Plus 20.
Plus 1000. And plus 10. What is the total?



Answer: 5000? Wrong again! The correct answer is 4100. Try again with a
good calculator.

4: Marie's father has five daughters:

1. Chacha
2. Cheche
3. Chichi
4. Chocho
5. ????

Question: What is the fifth daughter's name?



Answer: Chuchu? WRONG! It's obviously Marie!

I love things like this.

But I don't even get number 3...how on earth is anyone supposed to come up with 5000? That one confused me from the fact that I can't see anyway to get 5k out of those numbers...

I came up with 4100, what I'm saying is how is someone supposed to get it wrong and say 5k

Ok Candide thats were your intelect fails you :P . When people add numbers randomly one of the most common mistake is confusing the zero positions. Going from 00.00 to 000.00 is a simple mistake that unfortunately does occur, though it didnt for me. The only question that made no sense to me is the person passing the one in last position, stupid question imo.

Yeah, that one was dumb too, but at least it was obvious what the mistake was.

So you are saying they get confused and caught up in the 1000's and add an extra 0 in the roll over to 100? I guess, man I don't mean to insult anyone who does fall for that one but I just couldn't figure out how you could get 5k.

And why does one need a good calculator? Does this same trick fool the cheap lil solar powered ones that cost 5 bucks? :P

However you can't overtake yourself either... but should you manage to do it, you overtook the last place and are therefore in second to last.

Not like it matters, you're a loser either way... ;)

Unless I overtook them by running over them with my car, in which I would now be up 500 points... :P

I posted the questions as they were sent to me :P


However, the math question/riddle was old to me.. when I bartended this was one of my money making riddles. I would bet people like $5 or so that they would get a simple math problem wrong and most would.


Try it yourself on a friend who you havent showed it to, say the problem aloud to them having them hear your voice saying it as they add it up in their heads. My guess is alot of people will get it wrong.

(ask them to add aloud as they do it as well. They will go 1000, 1040, 2040, 2070, 3070, 3090, 4090, 5000)


I didnt quite get the overtaking the last person question either, I thought it was way dumb and way obvious in it's answer. /shrug

Alright I'm a genius and I don't know why you guys dont get 5000 lol let me do my math - Taking Pre-calc next year.

1000+40 = 1040 + 1000=2040. +30 = 2070+1000 = 3070. +20 = 3090 +1000 = 4090 + 10 = 4100.
