my computer used to run great then all of a sudden i started receiving these lag spikes, which drop me to 4 fps for about 30 seconds.. they used to happen every hour and now they happen every minute. these lag spikes have disabled me from playing these past few months, and i would like to get it fixed! ive tried everythign i can think of. if u have an idea post it here. or email me at r.lindsey@cox.net
Thanks!

it could have to do with some of your settings not working with the game. I found out that my moniter refresh ratre was set lower than what DAoC likes. try searching their sometimes useful but typically useless help page
also Foundations and SI have made DAoC run worse and worse. I am thinking of running old school DAoC when I RvR now to see if it is better than the SI version.

No ma'am, the only gaping hole I leave is within your dignity.

And, what does the Search and Rescue of the Danish Army entail? Looking for your nations pride and dignity? Cause I don't think I could find that either, cause even Canada has more of both than Denmark.

Well, if it lags like that, its obviously system side. First of all, have you defragged lately? Secondly, is your c:\ nearly full(system swap file)? Thirdly, do you have any new programs running in the background (apparantly the download tool from gamespot is also an involuntary p2p file trader)?

Maybe verge of hardware failure? Run some system benchmarks like sisoft sandra and 3dmark 2001 and compare with similarly built systems. If anything is really out of whack, then you'll have a much narrower focus to work off of.

Sounds like something is running in the background thats dragging the system.
How much memory do you have?
Have you tried installing the latest driver for your IDE (harddisk) controller. I've had bad performance with the standard XP drivers before, and when my harddrive would read or write the whole system would come to a crawl...
(was a pain in the ass in DAOC)
Try disabling your antivirus software...
Make sure that your floppy drive light (if you have one) doesn't come on every time it pauses (I've seen that happen before)... (or see if the CD busy light blinks every time it pauses as well)
I can try and throw out more ideas if you want...
