Anyone played around with any crafting?
Just curious.
I just read something about engineers being able to make bombs that have a long stun and do dmg.
Also curious about scopes for bows/guns.
I (like the gimp I am) took 2 gathering skills-Mining and Skinning
Discuss.....

i have done mining and blacksmithing at ~ 90 mining and ~70 BSing its great to just find a vein pick it and wait till you have alot craft all at once and rinse and repeat. Latter on i hope they implement more things to craft with BS like weapons, armor etc from what i've seen there isnt a huge selection higher up
To Many Xark's to count

well I got Engineering up to about 160 before beta ended. The guns I made sold pretty quick and it was nice to make my own shot, but nothing real useful at that point.
The bombs and dynamite take to long to set target and throw.
The exploding sheep were fun tho. Just wish you could choose their target rather than have them charge randomly.

nope, no salvaging.
I heard that enchanters could salvage whatever it was they used to enchant something, but nothing to make money like in daoc.

if you take skinning you can skin most any animal you kill. if you also hav e leather working it wouldnt be hard to turn that into cash. early in the game storage bags are a huge way to get money. you get linen cloth to make them and can sell each one for 4 silver (or if you dont have the skill sell them to someone who does, i was getting 5 silver for 20 without much trouble and kobolds in westfall are dropping them on almost very other kill in stacks of 1-3)
mining and herbalism are a bit harder to get money from since you need ot find random spawns of herbs but you can sell weapons/armor/potions fairly easily. dont know how much those raw materials sell for though

I took tailoring to 190'ish on my mage and had enchanting as well.
Enchanting was just too expensive relative to it's payback to bother with < lvl 35 from what I saw (i.e. up to +3 dmg per weap etc.). If you don't have a gathering trade you can only really expect to level one trade at a time < 35'ish.
Tailoring wasn't effective either. My drops were far superior to what I could make and my tailoring skill was above averge considering my level (35). I was making 10 slot bags for guildies but at that point most of them already had 10 slot drops and it was only a meager improvement to their 8 slot drops. I crafted a few robes for lower level guildies. Only *useful* item was a +50 armor cowl I made for myself @26 since they didn't really start dropping till 30.
For release skinning + mining are the best trades to take < 40 to make cash. Seems game is geared towards gathering professions until 40'ish then after that you can afford to PL your real trades. Other reality is quest/xp/mob cash is just not enough to save for a mount ... you need to supplement this with gathering + AH'ing for cash to hope to get a mount in early 40's.
Engineering looks interesting even for a mage with all the +int type gear you can make but like I said I don't expect to choose my final professions till 40+.
I'm undecided now on final professions. Tailoring does look appealing at skill 200+ but I think drops will rule in general.
